Food and Fitness with Stacey G

Good Morning FitMoms!!  Since the holidays are upon us and we will all be surrounded by lots of food…we decided to ask our fitness sensai/guru Stacey Griffith for questions surrounding food (and one on pregnancy weight) today and tomorrow to help us all out!!!
Happy healthy holiday season!!!

WHAT DO YOU EAT??

I eat healthy MOST of the time.. not all of the time ! I really enjoy eating healthy, I enjoy not eating healthy.. I have an awesome relationship with food, and an even better relationship with juice! I am a super green juice advocate.. I think it has kept my immune system cranking.. I very rarely get colds or flu.. I’m not sick very often, maybe once a year if that! I try to stay away from sugar and candy, but I love chocolate , and I love dessert.. I just try not to eat the whole thing of anything! I don’t chew gum… i think it’s a really bad habit but I know some people chew it to suppress the appetite, so if your “dieting” I understand.. (I may occasionally chew it to freshen my breath in between classes, but that’s it!)

WHAT WOULD YOU NEVER EAT?

I would never eat caviar, cow guts, snake, liver, goat eyes, things like that… I’m not into gregarious food eating, I think it’s weird.. oh escargot… YUK !!

HOW DO YOU GET YOUR BODY BACK AFTER PREGNANCY??

I have never been pregnant myself, but I have had over 30 babies over the last 15 years in my classes, so I think I have a pretty good track record of helping moms lose baby weight.. The key is actually keeping your weight down while pregnant, this way you only have 30 to 40lbs to lose.. which is easy. I tell my ladies that had babies this… ” it took you 9 months to put it on, so let’s take 9 months to get it off”. What ends up happening is that it takes LESS than 9 months to get it off.. and because they give themselves the target date of 9 months, they are so happy when it really starts melting by month 4 :) . The secret weapon of losing the baby weight is NO SUGAR OR ALCOHOL POST PREGNANCY. Especially if you are breast feeding, the body will hold on to fat intentionally so you can’t win that battle ! The body also wants to stay in a comfortable state so the baby feels comfortable when it is close to you! I don’t know any babies that enjoy laying on a bag of bones.. so go easy on yourself for the first year, and learn to embrace your mush factor! It’s temporary !!

DO YOU DRINK ALOT OF WATER?

I Drink about two large bottles of SMARTWATER a day.. I love it because it has a minimum amount of electrolytes minus the sugar of the VITAMIN WATER.. IF your going to drink vitamin water, you can’t count it as WATER.. it’s almost like soda.. so be careful :)  PS.. I DO NOT DRINK ANY FORM OF SODA…

SHOULD I EAT SUGAR?

In my opinion.. sugar is not the devil when it’s in moderation. It’s pretty obvious that in small healthy doses it makes a person happy! I can’t lie… I have it every week in “something”, a cookie here, a cookie there, a tiramasu after dinner split 4 ways, a little honey in my oatmeal.. YOU’LL LIVE.. Just make sure you stay away from the addictive aspects of it, like where you “have” to have it every day.. that’s not good..
